Two of the Blue Juice team headed out to Las Vegas last week for NAB 2017, joining 150,000 other industry professionals at the worlds largest video production exhibition. NAB is great opportunity for us to check out the latest equipment, workflows and technology and network with thousands of other industry professionals from around the world.

Why attending NAB is important to our clients

We see sending staff out to NAB each year as an investment – every year we come back from the event with a greater understanding for the software and hardware we use every day – we learn new techniques and workflows and come back buzzing with new ideas that all filter down to our client projects.

Our Show Highlights

360 Video
Following on from our visit to NAB in 2016, 360 video continues to grow – the Virtual Reality area was at least four times larger this year. We are currently working on projects for Bacardi, Virgin Atlantic & Necker Island so it was incredibly useful to see some of the latest post production techniques and experiences being developed, all of which will benefit our own 360 video projects.

Video Servers
We are about to make a substantial investment in a dedicated video editing server in the studio in the UK. We were able to meet with all of the suppliers we had shortlisted and get hands on with the systems. You can read a blog post on this in more detail here.

Davinci Resolve
Blackmagic Designs Davinci Resolve is without doubt the leading piece of software when it comes to colour grading. With the latest version (Resolve 14), it becomes a fully fledged editing and audio mastering package. Why is this important to us / our clients? Well, whilst we don’t think there will be a mass exodus of users from Adobe Premiere to Resolve just yet, healthy competition should give Adobe a little nudge to keep adding features to Premiere.

We watched some really inspirational presentations and case studies on the Adobe stand, and took away loads of ideas to try out on our client projects.

New Production Kit
We aim to upgrade our production kit every 18 months, benefiting our client projects and ensuring we keep pushing the quality of the work we do. We will be investing in new camera equipment towards the end of 2017, so NAB was a great way to test everything out in one place and get a feel for where we might want to invest.

We can’t wait for NAB 2018!
